Agency Overview
RefugePoint was founded in 2005 to provide lasting solutions for the world’s most at-risk refugees. We support those who have fled persecution, war and/or violence, in particular unaccompanied and other vulnerable children, women, survivors of violence and torture, refuges from LGBTIQ communities, and others. We work with those in need of basic human protections, struggling to survive with limited/no humanitarian assistance or social safety nets and who are often overlooked and forgotten.

There are more refugees than at any other time in history, living in exile for longer periods than ever before. The majority of the world’s refugees, who remain displaced for an average of 25 years, is forced to survive indefinitely in “temporary” host countries, subject to fear, destitution, and hopelessness. The Global Compact on Refugees affirmed by the UN in 2018 highlights refugee self reliance, and resettlement and complementary pathways as two of its primary pillars. In the 15 years since we were founded, RefugePoint has positioned itself as a global leader and collaborator in these two areas. There are unique needs in the world given the growing magnitude of refugee crises, and RefugePoint is at a pivot point as an organization with new programmatic and fundraising opportunities. Additionally, we have the potential to forge collaborative efforts that can help to reshape humanitarian response for the better. RefugePoint addresses these particular challenges in the world during this unique moment in time by seizing key opportunities:

  • Advance resettlement

  • Advance self-reliance

  • Help craft a 3-year fundraising strategy to lead us into 2022

Position Overview
We are looking to hire a creative, innovative, and driven Director of Development (DoD) to lead us into the future of fundraising. We want someone who is mission driven, passionate about supporting refugees globally, and creative in approaching fundraising opportunities. The DoD will have a strategic role within the organization and will manage and work alongside a talented and passionate team. Both RefugePoint and the world are at a pivot point regarding refugee support, and the DoD will have the opportunity to develop a 3-year fundraising plan while highlighting and taking advantage of our unique and time sensitive initiatives:

  1. Family reunion program

  2. Labor mobility pilot program with the Canadian government, UN Refugee Agency, and other partners

  3. Building self-reliance for refugees as a new, essential, global response mechanism to long term displacement

RefugePoint values a collaborative approach to fundraising and searches for opportunities to expand the resource base among partners. In so doing, we endeavor to influence how resources are allocated in order to build opportunities for common agenda setting. RefugePoint is fortunate to benefit from a solid base of support and has identified significant pipeline potential. In addition to the basics outlined in this job description, we are looking for an individual who will contribute to new ways of thinking – building momentum for a new approach to fundraising in the humanitarian sector that is collaborative rather than competitive.
